The Aruban coat of arms was adopted in 1955. A white cross, representing faith, divided the shield into four parts. A symbol of peace, laurel branches, surround the bottom part of the shield. The upper right section features a hill called Hooiberg. A wheel is located in the bottom right quadrant, which represents industry. An aloe plant is located in the upper left corner. Aloe is an important export. The last section shows shaking hands. A lion, for strength, stands on top of the shield on the Aruban coat of arms.
