The Austrian coat of arms in its current form dates back to the close of World War I. It depicts a black single headed eagle, which is similar to the double-headed eagle of Austro-Hungarian Empire. On the eagle’s chest, the shield of the Duchy of Austria is located.
The Austrian Coat of Arms has an eagle that olds a golden hammer and sickle. A broken chain that connected the eagle’s two talons was added after WWII to symbolize the defeat of the Nazis. Previous versions of the design have existed.
Many coins have been inspired by the nation’s emblem. One such coin that has the Austria coat of arms is the 20 euro. It was created in September of 2003.
