The Belgium flag was adopted on January 23, 1831, which was shortly after the Belgians gained their independence from the Netherlands. It originally consisted of three horizontal bars, but since 1830 consisted of three horizontal bars.

The Belgium flag has three colors: red, black, and yellow. The colors were taken from the Duchy of Brabant, but the tricolor style was taken from France.

The vertical bars were picked to differentiate the design from that of the Netherlands. The Belgium flag played a vital role in their revolt against the Netherlands, as its colors harkened back to previous struggles the nation had been involved in. The proportions are 13:15.

The largest city and capital in the country is Brussels. The Belgium flag belongs to a country whose national motto is “Strength through Unity”.
