The East German Coat of Arms
The East German coat of arms features a gold hammer and compass set against a red background. It is surrounded by a ring of rye. It was adopted in 1955 and abandoned in 1990.
The hammer represents factory workers. The rye represents farmers. The compass represents the intelligentsia. The earliest version of the East German coat of arms was created in 1950.
