A condor is located on the top of the Ecuador coat of arms, which stands for the strength of the nation.
A Fasces at the bottom of the oval represents the dignity of the republic. The shield dates back to 1845 after the liberal revolution, but the Ecuador coat of arms was officially adopted in 1900.
