The Gabon coat of arms was adopted on July 15th, 1963. It was designed by Louis Mühlemann. It features a shield being supported by two panthers that symbolize courage and vigilance. The shield features three yellow discs, which represents mineral wealth, and a ship, which symbolizes a bright future.
Above the shield, a tree is located. It is an okoume tree and stands for the timber trade. The Gabon coat of arms has two banners with phrases that mean “Union, Work, Justice” and “Let us go forward united”.
