The Georgia Flag consists of three horizontal bars of even size. They are red, white, and red. A blue square is located in the top left corner. The state’s coat of arms is depicted in gold within this field. It is surrounded by thirteen white stars, which symbolize the thirteen original colonies.
The Georgia flag was adopted on May 8, 2003. The state has had seven other flag previous to the current design. A version that was used from 1956-2001 featured a Confederate flag. However, the currency design is similar to the Confederacy’s original flag known as “The Stars and Bars”.
The current design of the Georgia flag won in a referendum with 73.1% of the public’s vote.
