The Indonesian coat of arms was adopted in February of 1950 and is called the Garuda Pancasila. It was designed by Sultan Hamid II. It is a mythical bird with a shield on its chest and a banner in its talons.
The scroll at the bottom of the Indonesian coat of arms contains the Javanese phrase “Bhinneka Tunggal lka”, which means “Unity in Diversity”.
The shield on the Indonesian coat of arms contains five elements: a star, a chain, a tree, a bull, and rice and cotton. They represent the five Pancasila principles.
