The Macedonian flag is made up of two brilliant colors, which are red and yellow. The Macedonian flag depicts a rising run and eight rays extending from it. This “new sun of liberty” is referred to in the nation’s national anthem. Among other national designs, the Macedonian flag is very unique and its flag ratio is 1:2.
The Macedonia flag was much different in previous times. When Macedonia used to be a socialist republic (until 1991), its flag was red with a gold outlined star in the upper right corner. From 1992-1995, the design contained the Vergina Sun, but Greece protested this.
Greece actually filed a request with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to obtain copyright of the sun. The United Nations mediated the conflict, and the design of the Macedonian flag was eventually changed to its current form. The rays of the sun extend to the edges of the field.
The largest city in the nation is Skopje. The Macedonian flag belongs to a country whose national motto or slogan is “Freedom or Death”.
