The Montenegro coat of arms features a flying two headed eagle. It was adopted officially on July 13th, 2004. It is a symbol of the House of Petrovic-Njegos, and dates back to Byzantine and eventually Roman times. It represents the close relationship between church and state.

The Montenegro coat of arms features an eagle that carries an orb and a scepter. A shield with a lion is located on the eagle’s chest.
