The Montenegro flag was adopted on July 13, 2004, which is the same day that the nation gained its statehood. It is a red background with a golden border around it. In the middle, there is the coat of arms of the nation.

The ratio of the flag is 1:2. The arms in the design of the Montenegro flag is a two headed eagle, which is of a Byzantine origin and even further back a Roman origin. The design under went many changes in the 1900’s, during which a tricolor version was used.

The largest city and capital of the country is Podgorica. The Montenegro flag belongs to a country whose national anthem is “Oh, Bright Dawn of May”.
