The Dutch flag, although first introduced in 1572, was officially adopted on February 19, 1937. It is a tricolor flag of the colors red, white, and blue, and it consists of three horizontal bars. The proportions are 2:3, and the colors are actually right vermilion (red), silver (white), and cobalt (blue).
The Dutch flag as it exists now was not always the flag associated with the Netherlands. Some other flags included the Cross of Burgundy, and the Prince’s flag. The flag was influenced by the French invasion.
The three colored red, white, and blue design was declared by Queen Wilhelmina, in order to prevent certain fascist activist from introducing a different version. The Dutch flag is widely recognized around the world. Its blue is darker than the blue of that of the nation of Luxembourg’s flag.
The largest city and capital in the country is Amsterdam. The Dutch flag belongs to a country whose national motto is “I shall stand fast”.
