The Nigerian coat of arms has an all black shield with wavy white stripes that form the letter Y. This represents the Niger and Benue Rivers. It is supported by two horses, which symbolize dignity.

A red eagle is on top of the Nigerian coat of arms, which represents strength. Six Costus spectabilis flowers are located at the base. The motto “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress" is located on a ribbon at the bottom.
