The Philippines coat of arms was adopted in 1946. It features a yellow sun in the middle of a shield. It has eight rays, which symbolize the eight provinces. The three yellow stars represent Luzon, Mindanao, and Visayas. On the bottom right, there is a yellow lion representing Spain. On the bottom left, there is an eagle representing the United States. A white scroll at the bottom of the Philippines coat of arms has words written that means “The Republic of the Philippines”.
