The Portugal Coat of Arms was officially adopted on June 30th, 1911. Similar versions had been used during the Middle Ages by the Portuguese kingdom. Some elements of the symbol originated with Henry of Burgundy.
The Portugal Coat of Arms has a white and blue shield in the center. It has a red border with six yellow castles in it. It also contains an Armillary sphere, which is an important navigation device.
The design is overall one of the more complex in Europe. The Portugal coat of arms has two red and green stripes as well. These colors are taken from the countries flag.
