The Romanian coat of arms was officially adopted on September 10th, 1992. It features a yellow aquila on a blue background. It holds a cross in its mouth, as well as a sword and a mace in its claws.
The Romanian Coat of Arms dates back to 1859, when Moldavia and Wallachia were united and a coat of arms was created that contained the the aurochs and the aquila. An earlier version of the current arms was used from 1922-1947.
The shield inside of the eagle is divided into five sections, which represent historical areas of the country: Moldavia, Wallachia, Transylvania, Dobrogea, Banat, and Oltenia.
