The San Marino coat of arms may date back to the 1300’s. It is recognized as a symbol of indepence and freedom. A blue shield is located in the middle. It has three green mountains with three silver towers. These towers represent La Cesta, La Guaita, and La Montale.
Oak and laurel branches surround the shield. A crown on top of the San Marino coat of arms symbolizes freedom. A banner on the bottom says LIBERTAS, which means freedom. The San Marino coat of arms is located on the nation’s flag as well.
