The South African coat of arms, in its current form, was adopted on April 27th, 2000. It contains a motto that means “diverse people unite” in the Khoisan language. It was designed by Iaan Bekker.
Elephant tusks are located on each side of the green ribbon that contains the motto. On the inside, there are ears of wheat and a shield. The shield on the South African coat of arms depicts two humans greeting each other, which is from Khoisan rock art. Above this, a spear, bird, knobkierie (club), and protea (flowering plant) are located.
A previous version of the South African coat of arms existed from 1932-2000.
