The South Dakota flag consists of a depiction of a design similar to the state seal located in the center of a sky blue banner. The seal is bordered by yellow triangles, which stand for the rays of the sun. The text South Dakota and The Mount Rushmore state are located around the seal.
The bottom text on the banner was “The Sunshine State”, but this was changed in 1992.
A previous version of the South Dakota flag existed in 1909.
