The Tanzanian coat of arms has elephant tusks that surround a central shield. The tusks are held up by a man and a woman. A cotton bush is at the feet of the woman. A clove bush is at the feet of the man. The shield is located on the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The shield is a warrior’s shield. It contains a torch, which represents knowledge and freedom. It also contains a spear which is symbolic of defense. The Tanzanian coat of arms also has wavy white and blue stripes that represent the land and sea.
At the bottom of the Tanzanian coat of arms, the nation’s motto, which is “Uhuru na Umoja” is written. It means “Freedom and Unity”.
