The Ukraine coat of arms features a blue shield outlined in yellow. Inside of the shield, a yellow trident or Tamgha is depicted. This is a symbol with Turkic origins that was adopted by the Rus' Khaganate.
The Ukraine Coat of Arms features a symbol that dates back to the Rurik dynasty’s seals (over 1000 years ago). Some believe it depicts a hawk or a totem. Over 200 different versions have been discovered.
The symbol was suggested for use in the nation’s coat of arms by Mykhailo Hrushevsky in 1917. This version of the Ukraine coat of arms contained other elements as well. A larger version of the current version exists, but is not official.
