The USSR coat of arms was used from 1923 until 1991. Because it does not follow the rules of heraldry, it is technically not a coat of arms, but rather an emblem. Four versions, all which had only minor difference, have existed.
The USSR coat of arms features a hammer and sickle set against a globe. Above this, the red star of communism was located. It is surrounded by wheat. A rising sun is set below the globe. The USSR coat of arms also contains the motto “Workers of the World, Unite”.
